Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses a variety of art materials for the purpose of expressing and exploring feelings, thoughts, and experiences.

  • drawing
  • painting
  • modelling clay
  • fabric
  • beads
  • anything!

Art Therapy can be a stand alone therapy, or used to complement other services.
No artistic skill is required!

During a session you will create artwork, often in combination with discussion with the Art Therapist; Exploring thoughts/ feelings, and sharing your responses to the art materials or the theme. The choice of art activity might be selected by the Art Therapist, or by the client themselves.

Many Art Therapists incorporate other therapy techniques into their session such as CBT or DBT skills. An Art Therapist will not interpret your art! Their role is to guide you and encourage you to attach meaning to your artwork.
